Engine Techwin has successfully completed a technology development project—supported by the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning (KETEP) under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy—to convert 3.5-ton vehicles to run on DME (dimethyl ether) fuel. This project was carried out in collaboration with partners including BioFriends, the Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER), the Korea Automotive Technology Institute (KATECH), Suwon University, and the University of Ulsan. In December 2021, in partnership with EnerTalk and BioFriends, the company produced and shipped two test vehicles to Turkey to initiate a project focused on converting aging vehicles in Turkey to operate on DME. Additionally, a DME fuel supply system designed for these vehicles was developed and shipped.

Starting in May 2022, the vehicles will undergo comprehensive test runs to evaluate their potential for commercialization, including analyses of their impact on air quality improvement and their overall economic feasibility.

The images below show the shipment of the developed 2.5-ton and 3.5-ton DME trucks, along with their corresponding DME fuel tanks.
